Back with an update!

A trip to work on medical research in Liberia and settling back into school have put the blog on the back burner for a couple months for me. But things for HFAC continue to hum along. I thought I'd get back in the groove by sharing some recent and future happenings in HFAC:

- A huge album of photos from our trip in May/June is being posted as I write, here.

- Construction of library/computer lab at Ikumbo Mixed Day Secondary School is progressing. Davis and the school's Board of Governors have overseen the completion of construction up to the roof, and timber and aluminum sheets were delivered this week. (You may see photos of the foundation in the album.)

- The school has also been wired for electricity and Kenya Power and Lighting is supposed to be delivering a transformer any day. This has been a long time in the making, but will be a huge deal when it finally happens (and I will post pictures as soon as I have them).

- Davis submitted a grant for our IT project to Safaricom last week. This funding would be in addition to $10,000 of funding from the Clinton Global Initiative and other contributors. We are in continued discussion with Kenya Data Networks about kicking off a partnership that would have them installing internet and computers as soon as the construction is complete. More on this soon.

- Davis initiated a project among the parents of Ikumbo to start a trust/bursary that would provide scholarships for graduates to continue their education. This is something we talked about on the trip and HFAC will certainly be involved in contributing to this fund in the future. It is great to hear that this initiative is starting at the grassroots level first.

- The HFAC team at Vanderbilt is processing all the video and photos from the trip with the goal of relaunching a new and improved website in the fall. We'll be posting things as we go so look for more blog updates in the coming weeks.
